THE TOFIK K. KHANMAMEDOV COMPANY Received the Notice of Allowance from Canadian Patent Office on the Patent Application for New Acid Gas Removal and Tail Gas Treatment Processes

    HOUSTON, September 9 -- A Canadian patent will be awarded to
Dr. Tofik K. Khanmamedov in 2002, which strengthens his exclusive position on
the family of processes for acid gas removal and tail gas treatment 
and expands his patents estate.
    These technologies provide a new concept for contaminents removal from 
refinery and natural gases, allows to enrich acid gas with hydrogen sulfide,
increase carbon dioxide rejection in absorber by using generic MDEA solvent 
instead of costly special solvents. This technology leads to higher sulfur 
recovery from acid gases and significantly reduces sulfur
emissions from sulfur units.
    The distinguished side of this technology is that acid gas with low 
concentration of hydrogen sulfide can be utilized in regular Claus unit by 
implementation of this technology in amine unit. Also, content of 
hydrocarbons in acid gas is substantially reduced and this reduces formation of 
COS and CS2 in the front end of Claus unit.
    This new tail gas treatment process allows to increase CO2 rejection in amine section of 
SCOT or any SCOT type unit, reduce mass flow of the stream recycled back to Claus unit,
substantially reduce oxygen consumption in the Claus unit with oxygen injection 
configuration. Also, this technology brings additional dimension to TGTU that allows
to reduce cooling requirements in quench tower and other operating costs.
